Traditional carbomers are generally synthesized using benzene-based solvents, while increasingly strict limits on benzene residues are being enforced in the pharmaceutical excipient industry. Our toxicology-preferred carbomer grades adopt an innovative synthesis process, manufactured using either ethyl acetate as a single solvent or an ethyl acetate-cyclohexane mixed solvent system. Benzene solvents are eliminated from the source of production, enabling benzene residues in NM-Carbomers to be controlled below 2 ppm, which better satisfies safety requirements for high-end pharmaceutical excipients.
